30 Weeks

Today we've hit an important milestone in Kristen's pregnancy--30 weeks. Exactly 17 weeks ago, on a Monday morning, Kristen went in to see the doctor for her first prenatal appointment. It was this first appointment where Kristen measured 5 weeks ahead, which in turn led to an early ultrasound the next day (thanks to a last minute cancellation), which in turn led to the discovery that there was not just one-but three babies. Every life has its share of memorable moments that never lose their vividness, and for us that was one of them. The weeks that followed that special day were intense and sometimes overwhelming. Over the course of a short period of time we made quick, and sometimes major, decisions about what we needed to have ready to welcome three new babies in our family at once. Looking back, I see God's hand at work in allowing so many things to fall into place in such a timely manner.

As you know, Kristen and I and the girls have settled into a place in Abbotsford. Yesterday we celebrated Mother's Day at Grandma and Grandpa Hoogland's. Both of my brothers and their wives were there. Abigail and Dana enjoyed connecting with their cousins Kyler and Celeste. We finished up our time together watching the Canucks beat the Blackhawks to stay alive in their playoff series.

So, you might wonder what I spend my time doing. As Kristen grows, so does her fatigue. Most mornings, after breakfast, when Kristen gets ready lie down for her first nap of the day, Abigail, Dana, and I head out the door. This morning we took a hike through McKee Creek Park. The girls enjoyed walking through the forest and crossing bridges, while also keeping a lookout for monkeys (which Abigail claimed were present in the tree tops). We followed up our little adventure with a snack and some time at a local park. But, this afternoon I get a little break. We're heading back to grandma and grandpa's for the afternoon and my brother is taking me golfing.
