34 Weeks
Well, here we are at 34 weeks and the countdown to the end has begun. Today, which also happens to be our 7th Anniversary, we spent the majority of the afternoon meeting with different doctors. First, we met with one of the neonatologists (premature newborn doctor) who works in the NICU at Surrey Memorial. Given that Kristen is at the 34 week mark many of the risks that existed even three weeks ago are no longer a major concern. Should the babies be born sooner than later, the main concern would be their ability to nurse well. We ended this first consult with a quick tour of the intensive care nursery. Next we met with the perinatologist (high risk pregnancy doctor) who is overseeing our situation. He had another look at the babies today and they continue to grow and develop well. However, the lack of space in the womb made it a little tricky to get accurate measurements, but the babies were estimated to weigh somewhere between 5-6 lbs each. During this 2nd appointment, we also received confirmation of when this pregnancy will wrap up. We have a date scheduled for a planned C-section: Monday, June 21. It's hard to believe, but in just 2 weeks we'll be the proud parents of 3 new sons. This 2nd appointment led to a third: we met with the obstetrician who will be performing the c-section. So, everything is in place. Kristen has another appointment in about a week with the perinatologist just to do a quick check up on her and the babies. Then, we look forward to meeting these three little boys.
Today has been a day to give thanks to God for the many blessings in our lives. We give thanks for our marriage. Through those years Kristen has been a supportive and loving and encouraging partner. We also give thanks for the blessing of our children. Abigail and Dana have brought great joy to our lives. It's amazing how quickly our little girls are growing up. Looking back to our wedding day, we never could have imagined that on our 7th anniversary we would be on the cusp of becoming a family of 7. And, we also give thanks for you--for your interest in our lives and for your ongoing support and prayer during this special time.
