Dan found this wonderful baby tracking website called Trixie Tracker. It was created by a dad who stayed at home with his infant daughter. We signed up on a trial basis, and started entering all sorts of info.
For those of you who've been involved with our babies' care at all, you'll remember that we had a little notebook for each boy. We jotted down in the notebook when babies were changed, fed, bathed, etc. We'd been trying to establish good sleeping habits, and the book I'd been reading about it suggested creating a sleep log. Jotting down info in a book is fine, but it's hard to spot patterns that way. So Dan had been searching online for a sleep log he could download (why create our own if we could use an already-made one?) and he stumbled across the Trixie Tracker website.
We haven't looked back.
In Trixie Tracker, you can track up to 3 babies at once (score one for having triplets!!). With the information we enter, it keeps detailed records of nursing -- time, what side, duration; of diapers -- time, wet or soiled; bottles -- time, number of ounces, leftovers; sleep -- time put down, time spent "in transition" (awake but in bed), time awake, etc. It then puts the info in chart form so you can look for patterns. It even creates a probability chart for sleep -- based on the info entered, the probability that at any given time of day baby will be awake or asleep.
I think the best thing about keeping track this way is that it lets us know, at a glance, where everyone's at and what needs to happen next. It has helped us anticipate and coordinate nap times. It tells us how much formula the babies tend to drink on a daily basis. It makes it easy to compare to previous days and see if the way they're behaving is on par.
For me (not the most organized person on the face of the earth) it is one tool that has helped salvage some sanity. ;)
